Your first name: : Scott Your school: : Highwood Hills My question/comment is: : As a fifth grade classroom teacher My class is scheduled to visit Valley branch. I received information about attending Valley branch through 3M's Strategic Science and Engineering Initiative. Would this an additional visit to valley branch? If so i would like to schedule it.
Thank you to 3M's Strategic Science and Engineering Initiative (SSEI) grant. Every 5th grade SPPS student has one free ride to Valley Branch ELC. This includes the trips already scheduled for the 2009-2010 school year. Valley Branch ELC will still schedule the buses for the teachers. In short - everything regarding scheduling the SPPS 5th grade trips to Valley Branch ELC remains the same, except the bus will be paid for. If the 5th grade class would like to schedule a second visit, they will need to pay for that bus.

Your first name: : tracie Your school: : webster magnet My question/comment is: : We are in a looping position for fifth grade moving with our students to sixth grade next year. Our students had the wonderful opportunity in attending Valley Branch this year. Is this something that our sixth graders will be doing again next year or will this opportunity then go to the fifth grade teachers that are sixth grade this year that will be looping down to fifth next year? Tracie Our service learning topic will be a continuation from this year. We studied water quality and will be studying water conservation next year.
Good question! We have scheduled your school's 5th graders to come out next year. Doing it this way ensures that every student gets a chance to attend Valley Branch ELC, but may limit teachers' visits to every two or three years depending on how the school loops.

Sia,
Thanks for asking! Valley Branch ELC is a program for all of the St. Paul Public Schools, including Ames Elementary. We offer students a chance to do real science and environmental studies outside not too far from your school. Usually students come here during 3rd grade or 5th grade. You can look through our website, ask your teachers and principal, or write back to find out more!!!

Thanks for writing Justin. We look forward to your return visit, but you might want to check on the date of your visit. It isn't on Dec. 29, 2008 because that is during winter break!
